Indiana/North Carolina Watch Party
I just have to say: Tuesday night was awesome! Before we headed to an Indiana & North Carolina watch party here in Seattle we heard a message on our answering machine from Bev Scott in North Carolina. The NC results were coming in and she was elated at the triumphant outcome. Bev is a retired elementary school principal and is a hard working Obama supporter who contacted us through the barackobama.com website when she saw we were making buttons for Indiana & North Carolina. Bev lives in Hope Mills, NC and how could we resist the call to send some of our Hope-themed buttons to a place called Hope Mills that were in need of campaign materials?!? With the help of our awesome button-making peer Beth McLennan from Evanston, IL, Bev was equipped to distribute volunteer handmade buttons to the Fayetteville, NC area. It’s people like Bev that make this campaign so powerful. Her work in NC is laying the foundation that we will need to assure victory in November.
Seattle Dem organizer Peter Masundire planned the watch party and Peter and I decided we had the opportunity to turn the watch party into a working event. So we bought button supplies, printed tons of sheets of button artwork, and rented and extra button maker and circle cutter from ButtonMakers.net. We had a fantastic turnout and lots of people were excited to help out make buttons and cut out button artwork. Thanks to everyone who helped out. We were able to get over approximately 1100 button circles cut out and a very large amount of buttons made. It was such an exciting night to watch the returns come in and watch the gap between Clinton and Obama shrink and shrink in Indiana, we stayed there much later than I think anyone had anticipated but the end result was that we had more buttons made!
